Robert Mitchum, Film Noir Cool
In the film noir side of his career, Robert Mitchum is probably best known for playing characters with a laid back demeanor , witty rapport and easy going cynicism. Not to mention those bedroom eyes. He never seems too bugged by the bad stuff going on all around him, almost as though he expects it. He also seems to attract trouble and we love seeing him deal. He's also interesting because he's not just your average nice guy who gets caught in a web. Many, if not most of his characters hint at a dark, twisted side within, which can be dangerous if provoked too deeply. Usually, it's hidden by a
mellow, smooth exterior, but in later films like Night of the Hunter and Cape Fear, this side comes to the forefront. He's the coolest. Below, are film noir selections of the 40's and 50's in which Robert Mitchum starred or co-starred.
