Moonrise

Directed by Frank Borzage, "Moonrise " came out in 1949 and stars Dane Clark as Danny, a tortured soul who discovers he is capable of murder just like his daddy who was hanged long ago. He is hopelessy in love with the luminous Gilly, played by Gail Russell, whose pureness and love may be his only salvation.

The film is so cinematic it fairly drips with haunting, unforgettable imagery. The soundtrack is unique in that it features some big band romantic music in the scenes at the dance, but also some bluesy spirituals sung by a wise old black man living near the swamps with his dog.

This film was nominated for best sound recording at the Academy Awards of 1948.
