Male Bonding In Film Noir

This section explores some strange male bonding relationships in film noir.

Sometimes this comes in the form of best friends, buddies, business partners or something indefinable.

In the case of the movie Road House, the men in question are supposedly both best friends and business partners.

Read about the crazy triangle they form in Road House with the woman (Ida Lupino) who comes into their lives.

Other examples of strangely fascinating male relationships in film noir include:

Kirk Douglas' character and Robert Mitchum 's character in Out of the Past. They are rivals for the same woman, yet they share something very intense, perhaps the recognition of their common plight of being hopelessly entranced despite the inevitability of betrayal by Cathy.

Another delicious man to man scenario is found in 3:10 To Yuma, between two men played by Glenn Ford and Van Heflin.
