The Film Noir Classic Collection


The Film Noir Classic Collection Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4 are DVD box sets put out by Warner Home Video.

Each bears a handful of must-haves for your collection and repeated viewing. Read on for details of what is included in each volume.


VOLUME 1

This first box set includes 5 films, all with commentary. They are: The Asphalt Jungle (1950), Gun Crazy (1950), Murder My Sweet (1944), Out Of The Past (1947) and The Set Up (1949).


VOLUME 2

The second of the trio of box sets in the Film Noir Classic Collection contains Born To Kill (1947), Clash By Night (1952), Crossfire (1947), Dillinger (1945) and The Narrow Margin (1952). There is commentary on each of the films by a filmmaker or film historian.


VOLUME 3

There are a few extra bonuses in the third box set of the series. Besides Border Incident (1949), His Kind of Woman (1951), Lady in the Lake (1947), On Dangerous Ground (1952) and The Racket (1951), there is commentary on the films by various well known film historians, such as Eddie Mueller, Alain Silver and James Ursini. Additionally, the set includes a bonus disc with five vintage noir shorts and a documentary called Film Noir: Bringing Darkness To Light.


VOLUME 4This fourth volume in the series includes ten titles: Act of Violence (1948), Mystery Street (1950), Crime Wave (1954), Decoy (1946), Illegal (1955), The Big Steal (1949), They Live By Night (1948), Side Street (1950), Where Danger Lives (1950), and Tension (1950).

Each film comes with a featurette and a commentary.


VOLUME 5

Now there's a fifth volume available. This one bears the following 8 films: Cornered (1945) directed by Edward Dmytryk, Desperate (1947) directed by Anthony Mann, The Phenix City Story (1955) by director Phil Karlson, Deadline at Dawn (1946) by director Harold Clurman, Armored Car Robbery (1950) directed by Richard Fleischer, Crime in the Streets (1956), directed by Don Siegal, Dial 1119 (1950) directed by Gerald Mayer, Backfire (1950) directed by Vincent Sherman.
